David H. Spear, Ph.D., DC
David received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He later earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from UCLA. In the course of his graduate studies, David patented a novel technique for introducing DNA into cells; this procedure is now licensed to Stratagene, a biotechnology company. Although research was intellectually stimulating, David eventually found it to be lacking in heart and purpose. After much soul searching and a profound personal healing experience with chiropractic care, David was inspired to enroll at Life Chiropractic College West where the college invited him to join the faculty. David served as assistant professor of biochemistry at LCCW, while pursuing his Doctorate of Chiropractic. This was the perfect combination of science and heart. David graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2000.
Melody Spear, DC
Melody received her Bachelor of Arts degree in dance from Bennington College. Her interest in movement and health initially led her to become a licensed massage therapist and holistic health counselor. Her desire to know more about the inner workings and healing abilities of the body/mind brought her to Life Chiropractic College West in Hayward, California. Melody graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2001, and was awarded the highest honor for clinical excellence.
Alysia Pell, CA
Alysia relocated to Eugene from the East Coast. She appreciates being close to family living nearby; and is happy to travel to stay connected with family that lives at a distance. She enjoys hearty and well-informed debate and is a passionate foodie. She loves everything about food: growing it, the harvest, meal prep and, of course, eating! Alysia loves the positive nature of Body of Light and being part of our team illustrates daily just how simple true health can be. She is a creative problem solver and occasional baby wrangler and spends the majority of her non-working hours with family. Alysia is an enthusiastic traveler, but is many visa stamps away from being considered a citizen of the world.
Stacey Zeigler, CA
Stacey relocated to Eugene from the Seattle area two years ago. Her husband is an Oregon native so they’re thrilled to be back "home" and to have left Seattle traffic behind. Stacey has two young girls, and enjoys volunteering at their school. When not cheering on her kids from the sidelines of their sports activities, she can be found running (she just completed her first marathon) or reading a good book. Stacey loves working in an environment where the doctors and staff genuinely care about clients' well-being and are committed to helping them achieve their best wellness outcomes.
Erin Moran, CA
Erin Moran’s official title is Billing Specialist/Back Office Staff, and she has a degree in Healthcare Administration. Erin moved here from Oklahoma four years ago after visiting family and falling in love with the ocean – and happily added to her rain boot and hat collection!
She has a 20-year old daughter and a 15-year old son, and enjoys attending her son's sports activities, playing the piano and ukulele, exploring Oregon, and attending festivals and music events. Erin says she enjoys working at Body of Light because she's part of a team that helps people experience their best lives.
Naomi McCourt, LMT, CA
Naomi McCourt’s approach as a massage therapist mirrors the Golden Rule: She wants to treat clients as she would like to be treated, which means really listening to understand their concerns and how best to address them. Naomi likes to incorporate relaxing techniques with work that helps resolve specific issues. She says that massage is not just about touch – it involves connecting with the client’s energy and working with it to give relief.
Naomi grew up in Central Oregon, and received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Massage Therapy from Central Oregon Community College. After moving between Eugene and Bend, she and her husband are back here with their three dogs and five chickens (all girls) – and they love everything about living here. Naomi’s husband is a personal chef for a fly fishing service, which works out well for her because she’s an avid foodie. She loves gardening, hiking, camping, going to the coast and traveling to new countries to sample amazing food. Naomi loves meeting new people, and looks forward to meeting you!
Melea Poffenberger, LMT, CA
Melea grew up in the Eugene area, then left for about 10 years to travel, ultimately spending 4.5 years living, working and playing in the Caribbean. Upon returning to the U.S. Melea became a mother to her beautiful, now 7 year old son. She wanted her son to enjoy all of the beauty and opportunity that comes with growing up in the Willamette Valley and so returned to Eugene in 2015 and is so happy to be home. Melea initially came to massage therapy as a client, and found tremendous relief and healing from the experience. She chose to pursue massage as a therapist because she felt moved to provide the same benefit and relief to others.
Stephanie Chew, LMT, CA
Stefanie Chew, Body of Light’s new Massage Therapist and Chiropractic Assistant, grew up in Hawaii, practicing martial arts, playing music and enjoying being part of a big family. Stefanie has studied massage therapies for more than 16 years and, during that time, her practice has ranged from sports settings to clinics emphasizing Chinese and Japanese modalities.
She explains, “My process works with the body as a whole and supports the idea that all muscles have their proper position just like the bones in our body. My specialty massage starts by working on the feet and legs first while incorporating teachings from south Asia, Acupressure, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi and European techniques…I know that the greatest thing I can offer is to help others with their wellness goals.”
Tricia Ayotte, LMT
Tricia grew up in New Hampshire where she attended Massage school at River Valley College. She was intrigued by the west coast and naturally minded healthcare so in 2012 she started working at a wellness center and chiropractic office in Portland, OR.
Four years ago she began her journey as a mother and spends much of her time exploring parks and hiking with her adventurous little boy. She is brand new to Eugene and excited to get to know the town and families.
Tricia specializes in Myofascial Release Massage and often blends this technique into her massage work. MFR focuses on finding restrictions in the connective tissue and breaking them apart to eliminate pain and restore motion. MFR is especially helpful in treating Motor Vehicle accidents and the soft tissue damage that is caused.
As a mother she easily connects with and has an intuitive touch for pre and post natal massage patients.
Tricia strongly believes that massage is a powerful preventative medicine and has seen the benefits in her own life since committing to monthly massages.
Personally she has seen a reduction of stress, improved circulation, and a stronger immune system.
She is trained in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Pregnancy Massage and is looking forward to joining the team at body of light and sharing this journey of healing with the community in Eugene.
